Exploring Orlando

Today we checked out of the Hampton Inn, set up our bikes and explored some of the Orlando -Orange County bike paths. The City of Orlando bicycle network consists of over 45 miles of off-street trails, over 50 miles of signed routes and over 265 miles of bicycle lanes and they are working really hard to join all of the trails.

Shingle Creek Trail – the one we took from the hotel parking lot – is a regional multi-use trail that is twelve feet wide and contains suburban and rural landscapes located adjacent to the Shingle Creek waterway. The southern portion of the trail is provides a direct connection to the International Drive Tourist Corridor and the portion connecting to Sand Lake Road includes two overlook points which provide the perfect opportunity for photos and wildlife viewing. We were fortunate to see a double-crested cormorant, some ducks and a turtle during our 35 km cycle.

Once back at the hotel, we packed our bikes up and moved over to the Hilton Grand hotel in Tuscany Village. Our new room overlooks a man-made lake and one of the pools. We sat on our balcony to eat our lunch and enjoy the lake view.

After we strolled through the Vineland Outlets – where pushing your dog in a stroller is a real thing.

Later, a hot tub and supper at the Cheese Factory, where of course we had to end our dinner with a piece of cheesecake that we brought home to eat later – it will have to be tomorrow as we are both still too full!
