Day 9 – Tamarindo

Today Brian, Pam, Kia and I headed to Tamarindo while Gary set off for Las Catalinas to mountain bike. To get to Tamarindo we had to follow Hwy 911 which lived up to its name. The road was barely wide enough for two cars in some places and took us into a riverbed with flowing water.

On the way we passed several nice beaches – Playa Guacamaya and Playa Conchal before arriving at Playa Grande.

Tamarindo was a hopping town that caters to a much younger, surfing crowd of people. Playa Grande was a large beach with a wide and long shoreline. There was a huge estuary on one side and lots of uncovered lava rocks with pools of trapped water further up the beach. It was beautiful.

After walking the beach we stopped for a bite to eat. The food was delicious. Kia and I had healthy salads, Brian a tasty chicken panini and Pam a decadent, mouth-watering waffle covered with caramel, chocolate, banana, nuts and ice cream.

Bellies full we set off for Playas del Coco to drop the car off at the garage and meet Gary.

A great day for sure!
