Our day began today with a walk along the rocky shore of Playa Hermosa to see if we could find any isolated beaches or other interesting trails. Once around the peninsula we discovered a cute little bay which was only accessible by traversing a steep rock face. With a rope as encouragement, I attempted the climb down. Incurring a little damage – small scrape on my elbow and shoulder – I made it to the beach. The ascent up the rock face however posed a little more of a challenge as the waves crashed at my feet.

Later we ventured out to investigate Playas del Coco. The little seaside town, which is one of the oldest beach and fastest growing villages in the Guanacaste Province, was a 10 minute drive from our place along winding – sometimes steep and narrow – roads.
The village had a beautiful boardwalk along the beach and lots of little shops and restaurants. We ate our lunch at a little cafe on the beach, feasted on shrimp and Tico tacos and chicken wings. The limonade with mint was delicious.

On our walk along the boardwalk we spotted a Variegated Squirrel and a Great Kiskadee. There are about 15 different species of this squirrel, with all kinds of fabulous colour variations, one of the most popular being the racing stripe squirrel that we saw. The Great Kiskadee is a boldly marked flycatcher commonly found throughout Middle and South America.

Once home we had a nice relaxing swim in the pool, made spaghetti for supper and played a few hands of euchre.
Your flip flops probably weren’t the best thing to be wearing for climbing rock ledges. LOL. I’m glad you only had minor injuries as a result. That squirrel is really cool. I don’t recall seeing squirrels like that when I have visited Costa Rica.

No flip flops were not the best shoes to traverse the rock face. It was fun though to try and I was the only one that attempted – they all thought I was crazy 🙂
