Today we visited Pireas and Athens. Pireas is on of the largest ports in the Mediterranean Sea and one of the busiest in the world.
What would a visit to Athens be if one didn’t go to see the Acropolis – so this is exactly what we did. We hoped on the hop-on hop-off bus and headed for the ancient ruins. The trip took us through the streets of Pireas, by the major ports and into downtown Athens passed the Olympic stadium.
The acropolis is an ancient citadel located on a rocky hilltop in Athens and contains the remains of many ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance, the most famous being the Parthenon. The Parthenon was a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena. We also was able to see the Temple of Zeus and the old theatre.
From the acropolis site we were able to get great views of Athens.
After visiting all of the ruins we strolled through the streets around the site. Found a nice little cafeteria and stopped for a quick drink and local cheese pie.

Thanks so for the pictures! What great memories of when we travelled to Athens and Santorini with my uncle George (Georgia’s name sake) who spoke Greek!!
