Today we returned to Bari. Though we took a different route back to the city the scenery was very similar once we got on the autostrada – olive groves, windmills, grapes, prickly pears and rolling mountains. It was very beautiful and green. It must be close to harvest time as many of the grape vines were covered. I had to google why they covered some and not others to find out that this is often done just before harvesting to protect the fruit from weather.
Bari is a port city with a large university and is the second most important economic centre of mainland southern Italy after Naples.
We are staying in the centre within the walls of the old city. Our travels tonight were within and outside of the wall. Bari is a hopping place after 8:00pm! We had our supper at a little restaurant outside on the walkway. The food was superb. Before returning to our airbnb we stopped into one of the large churches to listen to a symphony orchestra that was performing.
Cheers from Bari.
